where it all began.
OctoberEighteen all began in a tiny studio where our founder Brenda took her first steps into designing and making clothes. With just one sewing machine and a serger, she started creating pieces mostly from deadstock fabrics. That humble space may have been small, but it was filled with big dreams and a passion. It’s where the journey of OctoberEighteen truly took shape, one stitch at a time. Every day in that studio was about dreaming bigger and crafting with care, laying the foundation for everything that was to come.

Every single garment was made to order by Brenda herself, with care and attention to detail in every stitch. She poured her heart into each piece, making sure it was just right for the person who would wear it. It wasn’t just about creating clothes, it was about crafting something special and unique every time. That personal touch is what set us apart from the very beginning and still drives us today.

Back when we were just starting out, we literally had no budget for a professional fashion shoot or to hire a model. It was honestly a bit daunting. But thanks to some incredibly supportive friends, we pulled together our very first shoot. Everyone chipped in however they could, and we all worked hard to make it look as professional as possible — even though our resources were super limited. It was a true team effort, and those early moments shaped everything we do today.

Back then, we didn’t have a shop to call our own. Instead, we took every chance to join local pop-up markets, showcasing our designs whenever and wherever we could. Bit by bit, we started to gain a loyal and lovely group of customers who genuinely loved what we were creating. Their belief in us and our vision slowly gave us the confidence to dream bigger and keep reaching for more.

Our community is tight-knit because small businesses like ours know the power of supporting each other. When an event calls, we show up, not just to showcase our work, but to stand together and lift one another up. That sense of solidarity and friendship keeps us strong and inspired every step of the way.

We always dreamed of having our own store, a place that truly felt like home for OctoberEighteen. And in April 2023, that dream finally came true. We opened our very first store right in the heart of Hong Kong, a space where our story, our passion, and our designs could come to life every day. It was a milestone that made all those early struggles and small victories feel incredibly worth it.

Our first-ever collection was created using deadstock fabric, embracing sustainability and creativity right from the start. As we continued to grow, we began sourcing quality fabrics that we felt worked best for each piece, always keeping both style and sustainability in mind. This careful selection helped us elevate our designs while staying true to the values that shaped OctoberEighteen.

Hong Kong is such a beautiful city, bursting with energy and endless inspiration. It offers so much, its vibrant streets, unique culture, and stunning skyline have become the backdrop for so many of our creative ideas. We continue to draw from this place we call home, letting its spirit shape everything we design and create.

In 2024, we took a huge step by participating in Asia’s fashion spotlight “Centrestage.” It was nerve-wracking for stepping onto such a big stage, felt like a whole new world. But that experience opened our eyes and set our sights on the global market, showing us just how far our passion and hard work could take us. It was a moment that truly expanded our horizons.

In 2013, we launched our Kyra dress in two colors: white polka dots and black polka dots. Since then, the Kyra has become a beloved staple style of OctoberEighteen, capturing the hearts of many with its timeless elegance and playful charm. We remain committed to bringing the most sophisticated styles to all of you, continuing to create pieces that blend classic beauty with modern flair.

We draw inspiration from the vibrant energy of the city. At the heart of our brand is our in-house atelier, a lively creative sanctuary buzzing with ideas and the rhythmic hum of sewing machines. This is where the essence of OctoberEighteen truly comes to life.
We take great pride in crafting 90% of our pieces locally, right here in our studio, which has grown from humble beginnings into a flourishing hub of creativity and craftsmanship. As we continue to grow, we’ve partnered with a lovely, small scale, family-owned manufacturer to ensure quality and care remain at the core of our production. Together, we bring passion and soul to every garment we make.

When our founder first started Octobereighteen, she was the one and only person behind the sewing machine, day in and day out, pouring her heart into every single piece. Quality has always been at the core of what we do, and it’s something we’ve proudly held onto throughout the years. We truly cherish the talent of every artisan we work with, which is why we partnered with a small, family-owned manufacturer to help with part of the production. This way, we can keep a close eye on quality and ensure every piece feels just as special as when it first started.

With so much greenwashing in the fashion world these days, we hesitate to call ourselves fully sustainable unless we’re truly living it. When we started OctoberEighteen, we chose to work only with pure deadstock fabric. As we grow, being 100% sustainable in every way might not always be possible, but keeping nature close to our hearts is never up for compromise. And because of that, we’ve made a clear choice to never use any animal materials - no silk, no fur. For us, it’s about staying true to our values and making thoughtful choices.
