OctoberEighteen | The Label

A teeny-tiny independent ethical fashion label based in Hong Kong.
Founded out of my interest and love for dress making,
based on the principles of Sustainability, Femininity and Individuality ❤︎

From sourcing fabrics, designing, draping, pattern making, cutting, sewing, stitching, ironing, packaging, posting orders,
oh as well as answering emails and social media, everything is done by one woman: me :)
Every item is handmade to order by myself in my studio in Hong Kong.
It takes approximately 6-7 hours for a dress to be made from start to finish
(Some garments takes up to 12 hours to make).
Every piece is uniquely handcrafted with care and love in a very limited quantity.

A fact that many people aren’t aware of: over 400 billion square metres of fabric is produced per year,
thousands of meters of fabric go to waste by fashion houses and factories that over-ordered and over-produced.
The fashion industry is one of the most polluting industries in the world.
OctoberEighteen uses mainly upcycled and deadstock fabrics - Fabrics that are already produced but not used -
from various designer fashion houses and factories, create clothing based on the nature of the fabric itself.
All fabrics I use are sourced according to usage and cut cautiously to prevent fabric waste.

The design process starts with the fabric and local fabric markets are one of the fountain of my inspiration.
Fabric hunting became one of my favourite time.
I let the fabric lead me on the journey, which is both challenging and exciting at the same time.
Depending on the print, colour or fabric type I then decide on the designs, testing with muslin, adjust patterns if necessary,
puzzle the pattern pieces onto the fabric to minimise waste, cut and Sew!
Each of the garments takes between 6-10 hours to make.
Once assembled, I'll check for loose threads, press and,
finally, packed ready for shipment to you ♥︎
